Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas it’s hard to get away without spending money on a holiday or ‘extras’ this coming season like food and wine. According to RBC Canadian Consumer Outlook Canadians plan to spend an average of $1192.50 these holidays.
Here are 4 tips for staying on budget:
- Set a limit – Decide on an amount your family can afford.
- Write down everything you plan to buy and remember to include items such as greeting cards, postage and shipping, wrapping paper and ribbons and travel costs.
- Use Cash or Debit cards
- Reap Rewards – If you are going to use a credit card consider using a credit card with cash back rewards. If you’re a big spender at a big retailer use their points card to maximize your reward.
